This talk explores the history of AI, the pitfalls of current approaches, and the urgent need for responsible AI—emphasizing ethics, transparency, and accountability. We’ll discuss the EU AI Act, cross-border compliance frameworks, and practical steps for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to adopt AI responsibly.
About the Speaker
Dr. Muslim Jameel Syed is an Assistant Professor at Atlantic Technological University, Galway. Dr. Syed did his Bachelor's and master’s in software engineering and PhD in information technology with a specialization in artificial intelligence & machine learning. Dr. Syed research orbit revolves around emerging technologies, including responsible artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain, and the digital twin, aiming at enhancing processes and products within SMEs. Moreover, he has extensive experience in projects involving smart health, smart cities, and renewable energy, where he has adeptly applied digital technologies such as AI, LoraWAN-based IoT, database designing, and others. Dr. Syed’s research primarily centers on ensuring the ethical and legal integration of emerging technologies, emphasizing meticulous adherence to regulatory frameworks and standards. Dr. Syed also has provided consultancy as an expert witness to the US trademark and IP patent office in legal advice to copyright petitions in the domain of Digital Twin and Building Monitoring System. He has been invited as a keynote speaker internationally; his editorial roles in esteemed journals reflect his commitment to global knowledge sharing. He leads several research projects and supervises postdoctoral researchers and PhD students.
